The wind tried its best to sweep us off our bikes, but with Scotland in our sights, we braced ourselves and made it to Gretna.

We cycle on our stomachs and just when lunch threatened to be a wash out, we stumbled upon one of Scotland’s best features. Italian ice cream shops.

A Crolla in Lochmaden did not disappoint. So much so that after their first servings (full blown ice cream kebabs) Alan and Richard chased them down with sundaes.

Today’s lessons:

  1. Two lots of ice cream is not enough to nobble Richard or Alan.

  2. Finding a laundrette is even better than an ice cream shop.

  3. If you’re going to lug 2 litres of water around all day, drink the damn stuff.

Thank you and goodbye Cumbria and ENGLAND.

Goodnight.

What's with the pig?

Simon loved pigs and Puppet Pig, a furry glove puppet, was a particular friend. I hid him in unexpected places - drawers, Simon's satchel, under pillows - for the joy of hearing Simon say Eeeeee, Puppet Pig, what are you doing here?

Leaving Puppet Pig at home was not an option.
